Home Security Systems

Over 20 million homes have security systems and they are growing in popularity every year. What is a home security system, how to do they work and how do they differ from one another?

Sensors are the Foundation

You want your home built on a strong foundation. Home security is no different. The sensors are the “eyes and ears” of the system. There are many different types of sensors - door open/close, glass break, motion, smoke, water, and temperature are some examples. More sensors provide greater protection. It is important that a security system be able to support more than twenty sensors.

Controllers are the Brains

Security system controllers determine how each of the sensors respond to an event. For example, a door open/close sensor typically triggers an alarm under some conditions but doesn’t during day to day use. Analog security systems have only one controller such as a metal box located in the basement or coat closet, and are easier to defeat. InGrid’s digital systems have more than one controller, providing more protection and making your system harder to defeat.

Keypads Give You Day to Day Control

Keypads are used to arm and disarm the system and view the status of sensors. Traditional keypads use a rudimentary display and are mounted in a fixed location, for example, by the front door.. InGrid keypads are more informative, use brighter, larger screens and have the ability to communicate useful information such as current weather and warnings. The display clearly shows you the condition of each of the sensors. InGrid’s keypads are more convenient, making it easy to arm the system from an upstairs bedroom or other locations.

Communications – Your Protection Lifeline

Analog home security systems dial out to the monitoring center over a telephone line only in the event of an alarm. You have no way to know if it’s working or if a burglar cut the line. In contrast, InGrid systems are in constant, two-way contact using an internet connection and can send you a message in the event of a problem, and can use your telephone line or a neighbor’s telephone line as a backup. InGrid will soon offer more backup through our cellular gateway. More communications paths are better than one in an emergency.

Monitoring Centers Provide Rapid Response

Professional operators at the monitoring center respond rapidly to alarms, calling you to verify the alarm, and calling police, fire, or medical agencies in an emergency. InGrid’s monitoring center is UL listed, five diamond rated, and provides one of the highest customer satisfaction measures in the industry. Click to see the differences.
